Beehive Industries World Cultural Day on June 23 was a great success, attended by around 80 Beehivers, many who celebrated by wearing the traditional dress of their native countries including India, Russia, Indonesia, Armenia and Australia. Earlier in the day our talented Ambassador Kumar Pereira hosted our latest Cooking For Seniors Program by cooking a delicious Fried Cauliflower Rice dish, along with a team of enthusiastic Beehivers who all produced very tasty meals which were enjoyed by all. After our Cultural Day Lunch, a talent show brought out some wonderful singing and dancing and some speeches which were much appreciated by the audience. As usual Ann did a fantastic job decorating the Beehive with flags that celebrated the diversity of our community, and of course making sure the whole day ran smoothly from start to finish! The Hon Julie Bishop MP, met with some of our Beehivers from the Indian community in Blacktown on Wednesday 1 June. The lunch was organised to give local residents the opportunity to hear the Minister speak, and discuss issues of interest with her in person. The narrowly Labor-held electorate of Greenway is one of the most culturally diverse areas in Australia, and the Foreign Minister chatted with migrants from Syria, Afghanistan, Libya, Kenya and Sri Lanka during a short walk down Main Street after the lunch. The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) - 26 May 2016
'Supplier diversity in action' - Sixty NSW CIPS Australasia members and friends attended the Supplier Diversity in Action event on Thursday 26 May at the Beehive Industries premises, which focused on opportunities to support social enterprises procurement initiatives. Guest speakers at the event included Michael Sumner from Telstra, Andrew Dean from the NSW Department of Industry, Helen Bednar from National Disability Services and Lorraine Longato from SAP Ariba. Michael, Andrew and Helen shared examples of successful and competitive procurement initiatives with social enterprises such as Beehive Industries and Australian Disability Enterprises while Lorraine discussed the importance of eradicating human slavery from supply chains. There were displays from other social enterprises such as Aussie Biscuits (House with No Steps), the Bread and Butter Project (Bourke Street Bakery) and Coffee with a Vision (Flagstaff Coffee Group). Visit from the Hon John Ajaka MLC, Minister for Disability Services, Ageing and Multiculturalism23/5/2016 We were absolutely delighted the Hon John Ajaka MLC, NSW Minister for Ageing Disability Services and Multiculturalism took time out from his busy schedule to visit us today.
During his visit Minister Ajaka toured our operations and met with quite a few of the 74 Beehivers who were here today. He also sat down with our CEO and board member Andrea Plawutsky to discuss matters that were of concern to us and how he could help. We were most encouraged by the meeting and the Beehivers gave the minister resounding applause at the end of his visit. Thank you Minister Ajaka. We really appreciate your support of Seniors and Persons with disability at Beehive Industries Co-operative! On Thursday 31st March 2016 Beehive Industries celebrated 45 years of providing support to senior Sydneysiders and those living with a disability. The Deputy Lord Mayor of Sydney, Irene Doutney, attended and made a wonderful speech to launch the celebrations.
Our very own Beehive Ambassador and MasterChef star, Kumar Pereira, delighted us with a wonderful cake and some creative recipe ideas. Ruslina cooked up a feast for the 70-80 people attending, and our very creative manager Ann came up with the design and decoration ideas as well as ensuring the day ran smoothly. In keeping with the opening of Beehive Industries in 1971, dress was 70's style, with some very impressive outfits from our Beehivers. One of the highlights of the day was a performance from Amazo the magician who wowed us with his fire eating abilities. Board members Urmil and Noel made some memorable speeches and Kim Kelloway and her team from HLB Mann Judd made sure Ann's creative designs to decorate the Leisure centre were all in place. What more could you ask for. Thanks Everyone ! |
